Gopichand Arya Mahila College is a premier multi-faculty Post Graduate Institute. It was established by DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi with the initial donation of Rs. 2.5 Lacs from Seth Gopichand Ahuja Charitable Trust in May 1972. Ms. Kamla Khanna, the founder Principal, placed the institution on a sound footing administratively as well as academically. The institution made progress under the stewardship of Principal Kanta Sarin, Mrs. K. Sachdev, Dr. Manju Mehta and Dr. Achla Kant. At present, Dr. Rekha Sood Handa with her unflagging Commitment, missionary zeal and visionary approach has placed the institution on the road of journey towards excellence and is providing every possible opportunity to the students to develop their latent potentialities. The institution is serving the cause of women education not only in Abohar city but also its surrounding villages and towns of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Since its inception in 1972, it has taken a tremendous leap in the academic, cultural and sports fields and has carved an enviable niche for itself among the women colleges of the city. The college is successfully running various degree, diploma and post graduate courses. The college can rightfully claim of its achievements at various socio-educational fronts with many ‘Firsts’ to its credit.
Today the college has a spacious walled campus. It has sufficient classrooms, well-equipped Home Science laboratories, Fine Arts block, Computer Block, well-stocked Library with stack room and A.C. Reading Hall, Conference hall, Common room, Auditorium, Canteen, Play fields, Open Air Theatre and a Hostel with well-equipped common room with exclusive lawns for the residents. In hostel there is provision for A.C. rooms also. The New IT & PG Block, Indoor Facilities stadium and a swimming pool is under construction.
